If you are requesting records about yourself, you need to fill out an adult consent form. If you are a guardian requesting records for an incapacitated adult or a minor child, separate consent forms are required. The APD website has tutorial videos to walk you through the process. APD records fees are based on the amount of research and redaction work involved. Estimated costs between $40 and $250 must be accepted before the department starts processing. Requests over $250 require full prepayment before work begins.

APD offers online reporting for non-emergency incidents through its online reporting portal. This service covers incidents that happen within APD jurisdiction, which runs from the first Knik River Bridge on the Glenn Highway south to McHugh Creek on the New Seward Highway. Do not use this for emergencies or crimes in progress. Call 911 for those.
Online reporting is available for these types of incidents: drug information, fraud or identity theft, harassment, liquor violations, lost property, shoplifts (businesses only), supplement to burglary, suspicious activity, theft, theft from vehicle, threats, vandalism, and vehicle tampering. When you finish your report, the system gives you a confirmation message and a case number you can use for follow-up requests. APD staff review all online reports and may contact you if further investigation is needed. Filing a false police report is a crime.
