Fairbanks Police Department Records

The Fairbanks Police Department handles criminal history records and police report requests for incidents within city limits. Their public records portal lets you submit requests online. When filling out a request, select "Police Department (Report Requests)" from the category menu. You will need to include the case number if you have one, or the date, time, and location of the incident. You also need to state your involvement in the case and the type of report you are requesting. The Records Division email is police_records@fairbanks.us. Office hours are 8am to 5pm Monday through Friday.

The FPD also publishes a Wanted List on its website. This list shows people with active warrants, including names, charges, and warrant types. It is updated regularly. If you know someone on the list, you can contact FPD through the non-emergency line.

The Alaska State Troopers Fairbanks Post covers areas outside the Fairbanks city limits, including unincorporated parts of the Fairbanks North Star Borough. If an incident happened outside city boundaries, records will be held by the Troopers rather than FPD. The Fairbanks post is located at 1979 Peger Road, Fairbanks, AK 99709, phone (907) 451-5100.

Trooper records requests go through the Alaska DPS Criminal Records and Identification Bureau or directly through the post. For criminal history background checks, the DPS system handles all official requests regardless of whether the case was investigated by city police or Troopers.

Criminal History Background Checks

Fairbanks residents can get formal criminal history background checks through the Alaska DPS. A name-based check costs $20. A fingerprint-based check costs $35. Fingerprint checks are more accurate because they catch records filed under aliases. Both types of checks cover Alaska criminal justice information only.

The DPS online portal lets you start a name-based check by entering your email. A secure link is sent within 24 hours. The form asks for your Social Security number and Alaska driver's license or state ID. Results are mailed, not emailed, for security reasons. Processing takes 5 to 7 business days online or up to 10 business days by mail. Walk-in service with same-day results is available at the Anchorage DPS office. In-person requires two forms of photo ID, one government-issued and one with your full legal name.

Note: Fairbanks residents requesting walk-in background check service should plan to visit the Anchorage DPS office at 5700 East Tudor Road, as it is the primary walk-in location for statewide service.
